HOME LEARNING
Home learning can really support your child with developing their independence and key skills. We appreciate your support at home with this.
Reading
Please support your child by listening to them read at home and helping them to bring their reading book and diary into school daily. All children will have a school reading bookmark, which gives examples of questions you can ask whilst your child is reading. Reading books are ONLY changed on Mondays and Fridays (if your child has finished their book and needs it changing, please encourage them to let us know).
Your child will also have a 'Reading Trail' in the back of their diary. Certificates and rewards are given for completed reading trails. Please have a go at the different challenges. The local libraries have lots of books which your child can borrow for free and they often hold their own reading challenges for children as well.
Every time your child reads at home they will be awarded with raffle tickets and entered into our weekly raffle prize draw!
Maths
In the Autumn term, we encourage lots of counting at home, counting stairs, items around the house both forwards and backwards! We focus on number fluency and therefore we encourage children in Year 1 in the Autumn term to play on Numbots at home too. Their log in will be stuck in the front of their reading diary. We have weekly certificates for Numbot players and their effort and progress!
Topic Homework
Topic homework grids are sent out each half term. Please support your child by helping them complete some of the fun activities. They can bring in photographs or models to school to show us in class. You could also email the office with any photographs and we will look at them in class. All children will be awarded with house points and raffle tickets for theor efforts. Here is a link to topic homework web page Waterfoot Primary School - Homework
Waterfoot Primary School Badge Scheme- Your child are able to choose a badge project to take part in at any point during the year. The badge information is available near our school office. Children can complete and take part in as many badges as they wish. There are a variety of badges linked with many different themes. For more information, take a look on the web page here Waterfoot Primary School - Badge scheme
PE DAYS
Please make sure your child comes to school wearing their active uniform on our PE days. Refer to the Uniform Policy if you are unsure.
Monday: Outdoor PE. During colder weather, your child will be able to wear their coat for PE outdoors.
Wednesday: Indoor PE
It is very important that your child is able to dress themselves and fasten their own shoes/ shoe laces and coats. Please encourage your child to become independent and support them as they master these essential life skills.
Please make sure that all clothes, coats and footwear have your child's name inside. Thank you.
ROUTINES
Please encourage your children to come into school independently from the main gate to the classroom door. Children are given lots of positive praise for showing real independence.
When they arrive the children are encouraged to independently follow our morning routine of hanging up their own coat, putting their reading book in the box, placing lunch boxes on the trolley, placing water bottles by the sink and beginning their morning challenge. We always start the day with a calm classroom environment.
We have play time at 10.45am, where your child is provided with a healthy snack of a piece of fruit or veg. We have lunch time at 12.00pm. Hometime is 3.25pm. Please wait on the playground, outside our classroom's blue railings, if you are collecting at home time, and the adult will dismiss the children one at a time, when the adult is seen.
REWARDS
Recognition Board- In class children work hard to get on the class recognition board. The children agree on a class target which links with our school values or school rules: Respect, Responsible and Ready!
House Points- Your child will be in one of our wonderful House Point teams (Badger, Heron, Deer or Fox). Each weeek a house point team will be awarded the whole school trophy in assembly and a class house champion will also be chosen from the class house point chart. They will be able to wear a house badge for the following week (please return by Friday at the end of the week).
Reading Raffle- Raffle tickets will be drawn on Fridays. Children earn raffle tickets by reading at home and by bringing their reading book to school every day! Reading diaries must be signed by an adult at home, when they have read at home.
Numbots- Certificates will be awarded weekly during a mini class award ceremony.
