WIDER OPPORTUNITIES AT WATERFOOT

At Waterfoot we enrich the curriculum through a wide range of extra-curricular activities, trips, visitors, competitions, workshops and exciting awareness days. This is a real strength at Waterfoot and includes a wide range of opportunties which include a wide range of subjects including art, design, music, sporting, dance, drama, cultural and STEM activities. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - 3RD DECEMBER

This week the children celebrated 'International Day of People with Disabilities'. All children had a special class assembly, where they learned more about visible and non-visible disabilities and what it means to feel included. Class teachers then shared a story about a disability with the children, which led to lots of wonderful discussion around visible and non-visible disabilities, helping raise awareness and understanding.

LKS2 GREAT PLAGUE DAY - 4TH NOVEMBER 2024

LKS2 had a wonderful history themed day on Monday, learning about 'The Great Plague'. The children learnt about how the disease was spread, the plague doctor, the red cross on people's doors and the impact of the plague. They also made plague doctor masks and scented posies and learnt about the purpose of these items used by the plague doctor!

DIWALI - 1ST NOVEMBER 2024

The whole school took part in Diwali, learning about the festival of lights and the story of Rama and Sita. Children took part in role play activities, drama, story telling, art and crafts and much more to learn about this festival.

LKS2 Micro-bit club

During Autumn term one, Mrs Read ran a micro-bit club where children could come and learn how to programme the micro-bits using and online platform called, 'Makecode:Micro-bit'.  The children imputted clear instructions, downloaded these to the micro-bits and then checked that they worked.  They made name badges, fortune tellers and even used them to play rock, paper, scissors.  Take a look:

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY - 10TH OCTOBER 2024

Our children certainly 'Wore it loud and proud!'  to support World Mental Health Day and our chosen charity Young Minds. The day was kicked off with a special assembly, discussing ways we can improve our mental health, how trusted adults are a great support and what work the charity does to support young people and their mental health. In the afternoon, children participated in a range of well being activities to promote  good mental health! There was singing, dancing, walks in the woodland, yoga, mindfulness activities, creative activities, fun dddodling, wellbeing bingo and much more! A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who donated to our fundraising for Young Minds.

MAKING MULTIPLICATION FUN - PARENT AND CHILD WORKSHOP IN SCHOOL FOR YEAR 2s! - 8TH OCTOBER 2024

This week Year 2 parents and carers joined their children in school to participate in the Maths Multiplication' workshop. The children and adults practised building arrays and learning about their 2-, 5-, 10- and 3-times tables through a range of fun art activities! The children created an array city and a times table bird fan! Thankyou to all the adults who were able to join us in school.

KEY STAGE TWO TT ROCKSTARS BATTLE! WC 7TH OCTOBER 2024

To encourage and create a little competitivenenss in practisiing and recalling their times tables, the children competed in a TTRockstars battle! All key stage 2 classes worked as a team to compete against other classes in school! The winning class was Maple class with an amazing score of more than 2000 points - which means more than 2000 times table questions were answered correctly by the class. This was closely followed by Birch class in second place and Sycamore class in thrid place! Here are the most valuable players in the winning Maple class - Parker, Declan and Ruby! Well done!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH - OCTOBER 2024

Across October, as part of Black History Month, children have been looking at a wide range of significant figures, taking part in a live Black History assembly with Picture News, studying local black history in LKS2 and the transatlantic slave trade in UKS2 and even studying black artists in EYFS. Learning about other cultures and lifes of significant black people has helped develop our children's awareness of other cultures and races.

NATIONAL POETRY DAY - 3RD OCTOBER 2024

The whole school took part in this event, to share poems about counting and write poems linked to this theme. This was carefully linked to PSHE with a theme of ‘Counting on one another and everyone’s voice counting!’  in UKS2 and beautiful poems were written linked to everyone being equal. INTERNATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGES DAY - 23RD SEPTEMBER 2024

This week, we celebrated International Sign Language Day and had a special assembly to learn more about deaf people and sign language. The children learnt that according to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are approximately 72 million deaf people worldwide. Also, there are over 300 different sign languages and over 70,000 deaf people in the UK have British Sign Language as their first language. A group of children who attended our sign language club, then taught the whole school some sign language to the song 'Sing a Rainbow'!

KS2 BOOK PRIZE INITIATIVE - 20TH SEPTEMBER 2024

This week we began our key stage 2 book prize initiative. This is to encourage and promote the love of reading with our older children. Each week one child in each class are chosen for their commitment and enthusiasm to reading to celebrate their efforts. In our Key Stage 2 assembly every Thursday the winners are announced. This week our first Key Stage 2 book prize winners were Edie, Roman, Freddie, Sarah, Gabriella and Freddie. Well done winners this week! They have chosen a book of their choice from a wide selection of great authors and texts.  Please support our initiative by enjoying reading at home with your child and encouraging your child to read independently too.

NATIONAL FITNESS DAY - 18TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Waterfoot children celebrating National Fitness Day, this year, recognising the importance of physical activity on our mind and bdy! Children took part in many fun active brain breaks and exercise activities throughout the school day!
