The Arts Curriculum

Art and Design

At Waterfoot Primary School we believe that Art & Design contributes to the development of each child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially, creating a sense of enjoyment and purpose. We believe that a well-planned, vibrant curriculum inspires children to be the best artists they are able to be.  Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

Design Technology

At Waterfoot Primary School we aim to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise of each child; needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. We aim for our children to build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wider range of users; critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others and understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.

Music

At Waterfoot Primary School we recognise that music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children.  At Waterfoot music pervades every aspect of life and is a vehicle for personal expression.  It can satisfy creativity through composition and performance.  It can develop understanding of the past and enrich the understanding of other nations through the study of musical styles and interests. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience a broad and balanced music curriculum, allowing them to develop a love of music to take into their adult life.

MUSIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Here you will find our music development plan summary; which details our vision for music teaching and learning, our current music provision across the school, including our future actions for music at Waterfoot Primary.
